Eartha Jane Magdalene Light, a well-known Black and a resident of Jacksonville, California, was widely known for her humanitarian and philanthropic endeavors. White colored was born in Jacksonville, California, on November 8, 1876. Her Mom died following childbirth, by a very early age, she was adopted simply by Lafayette and Clara British White.
White started her education at the Stanton School in Jacksonville, at this point known as Stanton College Preparatory School. Upon graduation in 1893, the lady moved to New York City, mainly because in the yellow fever quarantine, where she went to the Madam Hall Splendor School and Madame Thurber’s National Out house of Music. The latter connection led to a position with the Asian American Ie Company, the first Black opera firm. She did soprano underneath the direction of J. Rosamond Johnson. Even though it is estimated that she became a millionaire, the girl donated most of her riches to finance her humanitarian work. Her works includes the following creating Oakland Area, the 1st public playground in The city of jacksonville for dark-colored people, beginning the Son’s Improvement Golf club, establishing a great orphanage for African American kids, a brand name unwed mothers, and a nursery for youngsters of doing work mothers. In addition, she worked with jail inmates and founded the Colored People Protective Little league. In 1904 Mary and her mom, Clara White-colored, established the Clara White-colored Mission which will fed the homeless and hungry inside the Jacksonville community. After her mother’s fatality in 1920, Mary continuing the work with the mission which in turn at 1 point was Jacksonville’s largest employer of black people.
