Agamemnon was the King of Mycenae, having been very similar to Achilles. Agamemnon was your leader of his military and was very happy with his military services. Although he never took any big risks in battle, this individual always had taken credit pertaining to everything and wanted the biggest share of plunder following it was around. He displays no thoughts, and does not trust his army, and is often testing all of them. Agamemnon is definitely not well liked by his people, although he is well known. Agamemnon is usually trying to get some thing for him self in any circumstance. This can be seen when the gods request that he results Chryseis, a prize by a fight that he won. Agamemnon will not return the girl unless he receives Achilles award of warfare, Briseis. Agamemnon says to his two servants ” Go along, both of you to Achilles quarters and take his charming Briseis by the palm to bring to my opinion. And if this individual balks for giving her I will be there me with men-at-arms in force for taking her- even more gall to get him This kind of shows his lack of respect and maintain other people. He thinks that he justifies anything that he desires, yet he is incorrect. Chalcas was obviously a seer for the Greeks. He told Agamemnon that he did not approve of his stroke, and that he “brought calamity, and that Agamemnon was “from the depths of hell. These word via Chalcas display that the seer did not feel that Agamemnon was very good person, and that what he did was wrong.

Everyone on the other hand adored Achilles. In spite of he held superhuman advantages, and placed a close romantic relationship with the gods he had various character defects that would not allow him to strive in all aspects that he would have. His imperfections did not permit him to act while using nobility and integrity that he could have. Unlike Agamemnon, Achilles displays his feelings, but he cannot control them. This individual strives to achieve glory in every aspects of his life, and once he aren’t he turns into angry and cannot control himself. When ever Agamemnon belittled him through his female away from him, his trend built up inside and this individual refused to fight any more. Although Achilles is used by the bloodlust, pride and wrath, he also demonstrates that he provides emotions in the final book when he permits the desecrated body of Hector to get returned to his family. Even though Hector killed Achilles best friend, he does the noble thing and allows the body to be returned to their original residence. Achilles cried with the old man about losing loved ones, and he allows the man to consider the body. “As you desired, sir, the body of your boy is now established free. This individual lies in condition. At the initially site of dawn you shall take charge of him yourself and se him. Now we will think of an evening meal. This kind of quote demonstrates Achilles believes in tradition, it can be Greek traditions to celebrate the closing of any deal by consuming food with all the people involved. The custom of praising a corpse and coming back again it to its homeland was likewise shown. The goddess Hera is in Achilles aspect, and facilitates him in the life. Agamemnon does not just like Achilles as they knows that he can a better fighter but are unable to admit it. He holds an individual grudge against him, although he cannot do anything to alter it.

I believe that Achilles anger is justifiable because he had a thing taken from him unjustly. Agamemnon stole Achilles lady as they had to go back his. This can be highly unfair, and everyone realized this except Agamemnon. If he withdrew in the battle although, it simply hurt his own term and status. Achilles was supposed to be a fantastic fighter, and a real warrior would never withdraw from a battle more than a woman. Through his your life, Achilles strived to make his reputation good, and by dropping out of the battle he messed up all that he previously done that was reputable. I think that Achilles could have proven his point in an easier way, and still retained his honor. Overall I really believe that what he would was validated.

In conclusion I think that Achilles was the better character through this epic. He tried to certainly be a good person, even thought he had many personality flaws that did not permit him to be while great as he wanted to become. Agamemnon on the other hand, was a terrible person and extremely arrogant. Agamemnon tries to manipulate people and situations to best fit his own benefit. Achilles showed feelings and was able to express how he felt to people, this kind of factor only will make readers like him more. Agamemnon and Achilles both held leading functions in the history, but Achilles was the primary character.
