This perform seems to include the character of Laura, although she is the main one with the less lines and the one that definitely seems to be the most poor. She is also the most powerfull symbol in the play. “The physically and emotionally crippled Laura may be the only personality in the play who under no circumstances does everything to hurt other people. Despite the excess weight of her own challenges, she exhibits a natural compassion (… ) that stands in stark contrast to the selfishness and grudging sacrifices that characterize the Wingfield household. Laura also has the fewest lines inside the play, which usually contributes to her aura of selflessness. Yet she is the axis about which the story turns, and the most prominent signs – blue roses, the glass unicorn, the entire goblet menagerie – all in some sense symbolize her. Laura is as exceptional and distinct as a green rose or maybe a unicorn, and she is since delicate as a glass figurine” (idem)

The plays shows its heroes trapped in a world both real as well as the product of their own minds, a new from which that they try to avoid and to which they are deeply connected. The whole family is in ways disconnected via reality, plus the intrusion of reality in the form of Jim, produces a rupture inside the continuity of their lives and changes all their equilibrium. This play was somewhat biographical of Williams experiences wonderful own family, and Tom’s leaving to match his dreams echoes the author’s satisfaction as a article writer.
