Louis Armstrong was born on Aug 4, 1901, in the weakest area of Fresh Orleans. Armstrong had a hard childhood. One of the greatest sac players in town, Joe King Oliver, started acting like a mentor towards the young Armstrong, showing him some pointers on the car horn and occasionally using him like a sub.

In the years to follow, Armstrongs reputation as a musician extended to expand. In 1918, he changed Oliver in Kid Orys band, at the moment the most popular music group in Fresh Orleans. Armstrong then made a decision to take some time off soon after the incident, and spent a lot of 1934 relaxing in Europe and resting his lip.

When Armstrong returned to Chicago in 1935, he had no music group and no record deal. He still had issues with his lips and there have been still little remains of his mob troubles. This individual turned to May well Glaser for help, who loved Armstrong from the time they fulfilled at the Sunset Cafe. Armstrong trusted Glaser with his and asked him to make his troubles go away. Glaser performed just that and within a few months, Armstrong a new new big band and was documenting for Decca Records.
