Asoka was one of the greatest rulers of ancient India. He was the grand son of Chandragupta Maurya of Magadha who also established the first Of india empire. Chandragupta reigned for twenty-four years before abandoning his throne in favor of his son, Bundusara (Asoka’s father), who left no apparent mark upon the disposition. My thesis would be that Asoka was an enlightened ruler and never a serious conqueror.
The first reason why I think Asoka was an enlightened leader and not a ruthless conqueror because in document C it states that “Asoka gave wealthy gifts to the poor.
With this being said this means that Asoka was caring for the poor and if he was a ruthless conqueror he would not have cared to do almost anything of that kind. The second reason why I think Asoka was an enlightened ruler but not a serious conqueror because in record E it states that “Today if the hundredth or maybe a thousandth component to those people who were killed or perhaps died or were deported when Kalinga was annexed were to suffer¦, it would milk dry on the mind of the Much loved of the Gods [Asoka].
With this becoming stated because of this Asoka was very apologies for taking above Kalinga and if it was to take place today he would to be able to reduce himself. My third and final reason why I think Asoka was an educated ruler and not a serious conqueror since in doc F (which is a doc of a individual’s opinion called Jawaharlal Nehru) it declares that “Asoka though an emperor, was greater than virtually any king or emperors. With this being said this means that Nehru thought highly of Asoka and was a kind, righteous, and good willing emperor. This document would support answer the question “Asoka: Ruthless Conqueror or Enlightened Leader? as it shows that persons in India thought extremely of Emperor Asoka.
My conclusion is the fact Asoka was an enlightened ruler and not a questionable conqueror because if having been a questionable conqueror he’d not have been thought extremely of people in India, he’d not have cared for to give riches to the poor, and he would not have recently been the Beloved of the Gods.
