As people grow older, they become vulnerable to various illnesses such as diabetes among others. Diabetes is a disease that affects a lot of individuals all over the world and comes up when there exists a high level of sugar in the blood for an extended time frame. There exist three noted types of diabetes- Type1, which influences mostly younger population; Type II, that affects populace above forty; and gestational diabetes which affects girls during the third trimester of their pregnancy.

Elements that give surge to diabetes include genetic factors, being obese and issue with beta cells located in the pancreas (Jack, 2006, 45). I) Type I This occurs when the pancreas produces little if any insulin. Hence patient on this type of diabetes have to receive daily shots of insulin.

The most afflicted are the kids and young adults but may also affect persons of other ages. Type I diabetes is caused by destruction of beta cellular material resulting from malfunctioning of the body’s immune system (Jack, 2006, 71). II)Type 2 In this case, the beta skin cells do not develop enough insulin to meet the needs of the body. Furthermore, the cells in the body do not react properly to the obtainable insulin since they cannot declare glucose through their cell membranes.

The kind II character of diabetes is most vulnerable to aging people (Jack, 2006, 71) Although diabetes does not have any cure it could be controlled through diet, correct medication and exercise.
